Change Your Stripes
GZ Tip #4:
Think twice this Mother's Day before grabbing flowers from the corner deli or ordering them from a conventional florist. Conventional flowers are grown using 10 to 100 times the amount of pesticides used on conventional fruits and veggies. Pesticide-rich flowers increase cancer risk and can create other health issues for farmers, farm workers, florists and flower-loving consumers. In addition, supermarkets and conventional florists often purchase their flowers from countries where chemical use and labor standards are not regulated.
This doesn't mean you should stop buying flowers. Quite the opposite. Flowers are one of the greatest joys on earth and moms absolutely deserve them, so seek out a supplier whose flowers are healthy for her and the earth this Mother's Day.

Live Clean, Love Life with EO®
EO (Essential Oils) is committed to creating products that are natural, gentle, effective and free from animal testing. In 1995 EO began operations with a product charter of NO's that they still stand by today: No artificial color. No synthetic fragrance. No sodium laurel/laureth sulfates or cacmide DEA. No propylene glycol. No diazolidinyl urea. No talc. If they can't find a safe alternative to those ingredients, they won't make the product.
Currently the FDA doesn't not require cosmetic and personal care companies to test their products for personal safety, but EO clearly embraces a higher set of standards. EO has signed the Compact for Safe Cosmetics, pledging that their products contain no harmful chemicals. To find out which toxic ingredients may be lurking in your personal care products, search the Environmental Working Group's extensive Skin Deep Cosmetics Database, which also makes recommendations of healthier alternative.
3 Great Reasons to try EO Products
1. All EO products are bio-degradable
2. The company is family owned and operated
3. EO's French Lavender and Rose Geranium are harvested at Green Gulch pasture in Marin County

Getting to know Rie Collett of Embody Wellness Spa
What do people love most about Embody Wellness Spa?
People love the friendly welcome and the caring services they receive from our very talented therapists and estheticians. Most of all they love saving money with our monthly packages, which make it affordable to come in regularly for treatments which keep them looking and feeling great.
What makes Embody green?
One of our favorite offerings is our organic, all green Coffeeberry Facial Care line which uses one of nature's most potent botanicals and delivers dramatic anti-aging benefits. It’s great for all skin types, and deeply rehydrates and brightens your skin! Organic fruits and teas are served to guests, who not only come for spa treatments, but also for our yoga classes and wellness seminars.
As with most spas, we have to do a lot of laundry. To help reduce our impact we use a green detergent in our high efficiency washer and dryer. We also use compact fluorescent light bulbs to save energy, low flow toilets to conserve water, green cleaning products and a reverse osmosis water filtration system, to reduce the environmental harm caused by bottled water.
Part of our vision of putting an eco-friendly wellness center together was to offer several services (massage, facials, waxing, teeth whitening and yoga) in one location so that our clients could take advantage of them without having to use their cars to get from one place to the next. Many of our clients are from the neighborhood and walk or bike to Embody, again contributing to keeping green.
What was your inspiration for being green?
Embody Wellness Spa is very much focused on wellness, which includes being very conscious about the environment in which we live and how we can protect it to the greatest extent possible.
What is your guilty non-green pleasure?
I love eating all kinds of fruit year round, so I often buy produce from Chile and other faraway places though I know it’s not green to have them shipped so far.
