Bike to Work Day is this Thursday, May 13

Why drive when you can bike? This Thursday, May 13th is Bike to Work Day, and thanks to the efforts of the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition (SFBC), it’s going to be awesome! There will be several Commuter Convoys bound for Downtown SF (and the South Bay), and new commuter cyclists are encouraged to become part of these groups led by experienced cyclists. Whether you bike solo or as part of a convoy, you can pick up free snacks, fair trade certified coffee, and reusable tote bags at the 27 Energizer Stations set up across the city.

The following Energizer stops will also feature Bike Doctors, local mechanics willing to provide free basic maintenance for your bike.

7:30-9:30am: Cesar Chavez & Harrison; Ferry Building; 7th & Irving;
                      Market & 12th; Folsom & 7th

5 -7pm: Duboce & Market; Kearny & Washington; Ferry Building;
             Howard & 8th; Fell & Masonic

This weekend, plan to spend the day in the Mission, one our city’s sunniest neighborhoods. Grab a cup of coffee at Philz Coffee before heading to Precita Eyes Mural Tour for their 11am Mission Trails Mural Walk. Philz drip coffee is the best around and their selection is sure to wow even the most discerning of coffee drinkers. Grab a few friends or conduct a random act of kindness by using your Green Zebra to get a third cup of coffee for free when you purchase two. When you’ve gotten your caffeine fix, walk down the street to Precita Eyes where their knowledgeable guides will show you the highlights of the murals of Precita Park. You’ll receive a complimentary tour for one person with your Green Zebra.

When the tour ends, pick up a couple
of paninis at Valencia Whole Foods and enjoy a picnic in the park. Valencia Whole Foods has a wide selection of organic fruits, veggies and healthy treats that will help you create a well-rounded and delicious lunch. When you buy one grilled panini sandwich you’ll receive a second for free
with your Green Zebra.

With all your goodies in hand, head to Parque Ninos Unidos located at 23rd & Treat. It’s a great spot to soak up the sun. Plus, on Sundays you’ll catch the Free Farm Stand from 1-3pm. The Free Farm Stand is an amazing place where urban gardeners come to trade and share their locally grown organic produce with the public. Just bring a bag and pick up some great produce. The Free Farm Stand also gives away free seedlings and starter plants, and offers 30-minute workshops for those looking to start their own urban garden. Whatever you decide to do this weekend, go outside, connect with your community, and make sure to enjoy this beautiful weather while it lasts.

Send us a picture or description of your favorite San Francisco mural for a chance to win a pair of tickets to the Precita Eyes Mural Tour. Send your entries to contest@thegreenzebra.org.

Thank you all for making our Earth Day Power Hours a complete success. We were overwhelmed with the turnout and enthusiasm for our programs. Please keep sending your workshop ideas to event@thegreenzebra.org.
